MOLECULAR ELECTROCHEMISTRY OF INORGANIC, BIOORGANIC AND ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUNDS
by Professor A.J.L. Pombeiro, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisboa (Portugal)

The volume under review (NATO ASI SERIES C385) is the first book concerned with the application of electrochemical methods to the study of properties of coordination compounds (including inorganic, bioinorganic and organometallic complexes), a matter of rapidly increasing interest over the past few years. It deals, in an interdisciplinary way, with the developments achieved in areas such as:

(i) electrosyntheses, (ii) redox properties-structure-reactivity relationships, (iii) dynamics of electron transfer, (iv) electroinduced reactivity, (v) electroactivation of metal centres and ligands (including small molecules of biological or industrial interest), (vi) electrocatalysis, (vii) reaction mechanisms, (viii) spectroelectrochemistry and (ix) electrochemistry in non-conventional conditions (e.g., applicati of ultramicroelectrodes to the study of fast reactions).

These themes, treated by authoritative scientists, are of particular significance not only to inorganic, bioinorganic, organometallic or organic chemists, who have considered the application of electrochemistry to the investigation of their compounds, but also to electrochemists who have turned their attention to solving chemical problems in those fields. The book should be valuable not only for those already experienced but also for newcomers; although being mainly addressed to senior researchers, it will also be of interest to postgraduates and, in some aspects, to advanced undergraduates.
