THE INTERFACIAL INTERACTIONS IN POLYMERIC COMPOSITES
by Dr. G. Akovali, Middle East Technical University, Ankara (Turkey)
This volume (NATO ASI SERIES E230) addresses our present understanding of interfaces and interphases in polymer composites. Polymer composites are of increasing importance, and have been the subject of numerous studies both at the academic and industrial level. An up_to date collection of information on basic concepts of interface engineering, consisting of a systematic understanding of the interface, its control and tailoring, are extensively discussed and presented by eminent researchers from the USA, Canada and Europe. A tentative model is proposed to relate the interfacial strengths to the level of physical interactions; mainly to electron donor acceptor interactions at the interface. The methods of investigation of interfacial interactions and surface, including IGC, SEM, ESCA Auger_Simms, ion scattering and induction time approach are all reviewed. This volume will be of value to all researchers interested in interface engineering/polymer composites.
