ESA_IRS ELIMINATES SESSION CHARGES FOR THE NATO_PCO DATABASE

The Online Information Retrieval Service of the European Space Agency, ESRIN, Frascati (Rome) and host of the NATO_PCO DATA BASE (FILE 128), has recently further improved its pricing structure for online retrieval for most of its databases.

For all those scientists, libraries and information providers who have a contract with ESA_IRS for online retrieval, this means that the `Pay for what you use!' principle has now been fully implemented for many databases, amongst which the NATO_PCO DATABASE. Users of the NATO_PCO DATABASE have to pay for the information extracted rather than for the time spent searching for data online.

Librarians and information brokers, but especially occasional and therefore less experienced users will appreciate this new feature which allows for the location and extraction of references to scientific contributions at even lower cost than hitherto.

Another advantage of the new pricing system is that it tends to encourage the use of smaller, more specific data bases, like the NATO_PCO DATA BASE which provides access to the references of all papers and contributions published in the NATO ASI SERIES as the tangible result of more than 1500 NATO meetings held since 1972.

We should like to remind our readers that further information on the online services and the host of the NATO_PCO DATA BASE is available from:

Amongst the many requests we receive about the databases we are publishing, there are a number of persons who are wondering whether the AGARD AEROSPACE DATABASE which is one of our two databases accessible through the CD_ROM `NATO SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY DISK' is also available online with ESA_IRS. This _ we regret to say _ is not the case and we encourage those interested in this important database to use the CD_ROM available through our office!

For those wishing further details, a full_page description of the CD_ROM `NATO SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY DISK' can be found in the centre of this newsletter.
